Why should you study this Sound Design for Stage & Screen* FdA?

Sound is one of the areas where both venues and screen producers are demanding more skilled specialists. Upon graduation you will be highly skilled and capable of working technically and creatively across digital media, film, TV and theatrical productions. Graduates will be equipped to work with confidence whilst maintaining industry standards within multidisciplinary production teams to produce creative sonic solutions across the spectrum of digital media and live performance. Throughout the programme you will be collaborating with CCAD students on related programmes on productions for stage and screen whilst developing your own sonic vocabulary.

This programme is highly focussed on industry needs. The programme is led by practicing professionals and you will have the opportunity to work with visiting lecturers and professionals from: producing and presenting theatres; Film; and with professionals working on BBC and ITV productions.

In our brand new facilities, you will get the opportunity to work with leading edge, industry standard, equipment including:

  • Studio, location, and field recording equipment,
  • Proprietary Software (including Pro Tools, Live,Qlab, Kontakt, Media Composer)
  • Audio Hardware (Digital and analogue consoles, Location Mixers, Mic Stock, Field Recorders)
  • Recording studio including sound proof live room

On our campus we have a proscenium arch theatre with lighting gallery; double height TV studios offering real scope to explore sound techniques as well as a commercial sound stage facility next door to our teaching facilities which will be one of the largest such facilities in the UK. We also have close working relationships with regional venues where you will get involved with productions and live projects – these include Darlington Hippodrome and Theatre Hullaballoo – the National Centre for  Children’s Theatre.

To complement your learning we are excited to have facilities such as The Bus Sheds – a commercial sound stage facility next door to our teaching facilities which will be one of the largest such facilities in the UK.
